Three days after Election Day, two Florida counties continue to count ballots.
Election officials in Duval and Palm Beach counties are still counting absentee ballots, stretching out the election even after the outcome has been decided. Earlier this week, there were nine Florida counties outstanding, then six, then three, and now two.
Both counties have until Saturday at noon to turn in the final count.
Regardless of the Florida outcome, President Obama remains president because he has collected 303 electoral votes without Florida, well-above the 270 needed to win the presidency.
Mitt Romney’s Florida campaign conceded the state on Thursday, telling The Miami Herald that the GOP candidate “obviously” lost the race: “The numbers in Florida show this was winnable. We thought based on our polling and range of organization that we had done what we needed to win. Obviously, we didn’t, and for that I and every other operative in Florida has a sick feeling that we left something on the table. I can assure you this won’t happen again.” NBC News has not called the results in Florida.
