Grammy award winner Sting will be team up with with No Doubt Saturday at the Global Citizen Festival in New York City’s Central Park, organizers announced Thursday.
The Global Citizen Festival, which will air on MSNBC starting at 3 p.m. ET, is part of a global effort to end extreme poverty by 2030. Both Sting and No Doubt share “similar views on the importance of activism and both acts famously feature world influences in their music,” organizers said in a statement Thursday.
The British rock legend gained global attention as the lead vocalist and bassist of The Police in the late 1970s and early 1980s. He has continued his multi-decade career as a solo artist with massive hits like “Every Breath You Take” and “Brand New Day.”
The concert’s lineup also includes appearances by JAY Z, Hugh Jackman, Carrie Underwood, The Roots, Tiesto and other celebrities and world leaders.
Sixty-thousand attendees are expected to rock out for the cause. Most of the tickets were earned by participants taking action to improve the lives of more than 50 million people by promoting vaccines, education, sanitation and more.
