Renowned entertainers, Hugh Jackman, Deborra-Lee, Stephen Colbert, Salma Hayek Pinault, Kerry Washington and Olivia Wilde, will be the lead hosts of the 2015 Global Citizen Festival (GCF), a free-ticketed event that encourages the public to get involved with the Global Citizen movement and help end extreme poverty.
In a press release from Global Poverty Project, Colbert said that he is “honored and thrilled to join Global Citizen.”
“Finally, all that U.N. traffic will have a purpose,” the political satirist joked.
“I am very excited to be a part of the Global Citizen Festival and to join in this movement calling for an end to extreme poverty so that our future generations can live in a more just and equal world,” actress Kerry Washington said about hosting the Festival.
Coinciding with the announcement of the United Nations’ new Global Goals, GCF is timed to promote the fight against inequality, improve educational opportunities, help foster the growth of girls and women, endorse environmental protection and to end extreme poverty by 2030.
The concert event, which will take place on the Great Lawn in Central Park in New York City on Saturday, September 26, will be headlined by Pearl Jam, Beyoncé, Ed Sheeran and Coldplay.
