It’s true, Zayn Malik is departing boy band One Direction for a simpler life. But a lot of other things also happened this week: A passenger plane crashed in the French Alps; GOP Sen. Ted Cruz launched his presidential campaign; and Bowe Bergdahl was charged with desertion, among other headlines.

“I am leaving because I want to be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight,” Malik said in a statement on One Direction’s Facebook page.
The co-pilot of the crashed Germanwings plane appears to have “intentionally” brought the plane down. One hundred fifty people were killed in the disaster.

In terms of a 2016 presidential bid for Jindal? “We’re thinking about it,” he said.
