After right-wing radio host Rush Limbaugh’s attack on Sandra Fluke, a Georgetown University law student who was prevented from testifying at a congressional hearing about the importance of having contraception covered by health insurance, in which he called her a “slut,” Rachel Maddow called him out for fundamentally misunderstanding how birth control works.
Limbaugh, most disturbingly, argued that women were having “so much sex” that they were going broke paying for contraception. Ignoring the fact that a birth control pill is not needed every time a woman has sex, Limbaugh asserted that Fluke was a prostitute for wanting to receive payment for sex and that she should record her sexual encounters so that taxpayers can watch.
While Maddow pointed out that Limbaugh was essentially trolling America with his comments, she said that his offensive remarks betrayed just how confused he is by biology.
