Liz Cheney, the eldest daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, says she’s considering another bid for Congress.
The 49-year-old Republican told the Associated Press on Thursday evening that she’s “taking a serious look at running” for an open seat in the House for Wyoming and “will be discussing this with my family and others around the state as I make my decision in the coming weeks.”
The news comes as GOP Rep. Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming, who assumed office in 2009, recently announced she would not seek re-election next year.
If she does run, it won’t be her first congressional bid. Cheney, who worked in the U.S. State Department during the George W. Bush Administration, made a run for the Senate in 2014 against incumbent Republican Sen. Mike Enzi. Citing “serious health issues in her family,” she eventually dropped her primary challenge, however – ending a bitter race that included a public fight over same-sex marriage with her gay sister.
