Comedian Kathy Griffin announced on Thursday that she would be leaving E!’s Fashion Police after just seven episodes.
Griffin, who originally stepped in to replace her “dear friend” the late Joan Rivers, said she was leaving the show after discovering her brand of humor didn’t fit with the creative direction of the show.
“My brand of humor, while unrepentant and unafraid, is all about CONTEXT. There is plenty to make fun of in pop culture without bringing people’s bodies into it,” Griffin wrote in a Twitter message on Thursday.
Several other female comedic performers were quick to show support for Griffin’s decision on social media.
“Girls” star Lena Dunham took to Instagram to express her appreciation, writing,“Congrats to my beautiful friend Kathy Griffin for bravely saying enough is enough to intolerance of all kinds on television. She’s modeling a better way for the youths.”
Former E! personality Chelsea Handler, who recently called the network “a sad, sad place to live,” tweeted: “Way to go girl. Stick to your guns.”
“Parks and Recreation” star Aubrey Plaza reposted Griffin’s message, writing, “I have so much respect for Kathy Griffin. Cheers for doing what you think is right. She is my hero.”

Onward and upward.” Griffin’s exit comes just weeks after Kelly Osbourne quit Fashion Police in the aftermath of a racially charged comment made by co-host Giuliana Rancic during post-show coverage of the Academy Awards. Rancic later publicly apologized after saying the 18-year-old biracial actress Zendaya’s dreadlocks smelled “like patchouli oil … or weed.”
