HEALTH & TAXES: H&R Block and Jackson Hewitt are making an effort to educate their tax clients on signing up for Obamacare. They are discussing the tax implications for not being covered, and calculating the potential size of the subsidy they are eligible for. The strategy is interesting given that client who receive a refund would be more likely to be able to have money on hand to pay their insurance premiums, if they enroll. Read more
FOR LOVE AND MONEY–MANY PARENTS SAY THEY WANT TO WORK: A new global survey of executives from around the world finds that 44% of men and 42% of women surveyed would prefer to work instead of stay at home, even if finances were not an issue. The Accenture study of 4,100 executives also found that the vast majority of respondents expect women to become more prevalent in the executive ranks in the coming years. Read more
FEDS SUE A FOR-PROFIT COLLEGE FOR PREDATORY LENDING: The CFPB filed a lawsuit against one of the largest for-profit college chains in the U.S., claiming the company used predatory lending practices. The lawsuit alleges ITT tricked students into taking out high-interest private loans after they had enrolled. This is the first action the CFPB has taken against a for-profit. Read more
