Tragedy has struck at a Boy Scout camp in San Diego, where a 12-year-old boy died Monday of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, KNSD reported.
The child, whose identity has not yet been released, arrived at Camp Fiesta Island in Mission Bay on Sunday with a troop from Las Vegas, Nevada, according to Lt. Mike Hastings. Police officials say they have secured the gun involved, but would not confirm where it was found. Investigators are now interviewing scouts and leaders, including the boy’s father, who was present at the camp.
Paramedics discovered the child with a gunshot wound after police received a call at 7:35 a.m. regarding a suicide attempt. After efforts to revive him failed, the boy was pronounced dead at the camp, according to a spokesperson for San Diego Fire Rescue.
