One Bush hinted at another Bush’s presidential aspirations on Sunday, telling ABC News that it’s “more than likely” that former Florida Governor Jeb Bush will run for the White House in 2016.
Jeb Bush’s son hinted at his dad’s candidacy while discussing his own—George P. Bush is currently campaigning for his first elected office, Texas’ land commissioner.
“I think it’s more than likely that he’s giving this a serious thought in moving forward,” Bush said from the campaign trail in Texas. “More than likely that he’ll run?” interviewer Jonathon Karl asked.
“That he’ll run,” Bush confirmed. “If you had asked me a few years back, I would’ve said it was less likely.”
Jeb Bush’s name has been tossed around as a potential 2016 candidate for months as someone who might be able to take on likely Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton with the Bush family name and his executive experience as governor of Florida. Still, most polls show Clinton leading Bush in a hypothetical matchup, by a RealClearPolitics average of 9.9 points, and the governor hasn’t said whether or not he will run. As a candidate, Bush’s support of immigration reform could help him appeal to moderates and minorities, but his continuing support for Common Core — a political minefield among Republicans — will undoubtedly trip him up within his own party.
