For the days remaining in April, Boston residents can enjoy their beer and support victims of the marathon bombings.
The Boston Beer Company, perhaps best known to the world as makers of Sam Adams, is donating all of the profits from one of its special brews to charity, founder and chairman Jim Koch told the Morning Joe panel on Wednesday.
The company’s “Boston 26.2 Brew” (named so for the length of a marathon) was made available exclusively at bars and restaurants along the marathon route and at marathon-related events, and Koch’s company will donate the money raised to The Greg Hill Foundation, a Boston-based non-profit established in 2010 to “respond to the immediate needs of families that had been touched by tragedy,” as its Web site describes.
“We’re donating all of the profits from that beer to help the victims of the Boston massacre,” Koch told the panel before adding that the Boston Beer Co. had roughly 70 people either running or helping out at the marathon.
Koch said none of the company’s employees were hurt and “everybody got home safely.”
More than 75 area bars and restaurants are also contributing a portion of their sales to the Greg Hill Foundation as well, Koch notes in a blog post entitled “Supporting Our BostonStrong Community,” which was posted on the Samuel Adams blog Monday. In the post, Koch voices his support for the “all the first responders, medical staff, law enforcement officers and other agencies for the incredible teamwork displayed throughout the week.” “We all felt safer because of their efforts and the capture of the second suspect. It was a little over a mile from my house. My family and I slept well that night because of their efforts,” he writes.
