This Sunday, Melissa Harris-Perry will have the latest news on the situation in Eastern Ukraine where Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 was shot down over separatist controlled territory.
New reports now suggest that rebels in the area have looted the crash site and even removed bodies from the area. This and other developments in the area have created a diplomatic crisis between the U.S. and the Russian Federation. Host Melissa Harris-Perry will talk with her panel about how we got to this point, and how Cold War foreign policy shaped the political and military conditions that have precipitated the current crises.
We’ll also have an update on events in Gaza where at least three Israelis and more than 300 Palestinians have lost their lives in the ongoing conflict. In addition to all of the events in Ukraine and Gaza, the State Department’s attention is also focused on last minute measures being undertaken to extend the deadline on the Obama administration’s other major diplomatic challenge, the Iranian nuclear deal. With four months of additional time for negotiations, parties to the negotiations are referring to this as the “last chance” to end the years-long dispute between Iran and western nations over its nuclear program. The panel will discuss Iran’s place in the mélange of global affairs currently taking place.
If three international dramas weren’t enough for our nation’s policymakers, the humanitarian crisis on the southern border continues to unfold. Right now thousands of unaccompanied minors remain stuck in legal limbo as Congress debates a bill that would speed up deportations to violence-plagued Central American countries. Harris-Perry will talk about the experience of immigrants in the face of persistent and vitriolic backlash and how the nation’s changing demographics frames our policy debate with regard to this issue.
