It’s time now to clear the air, and in today’s edition of pretense and hypocrisy, we bring you an act of such brazen dishonesty and speciousness that it’s hard to know where to begin. So let’s start with words from the horse’s mouth:
“Our vets have proven that they have not been timid, so we will not be timid in calling out any who would use our military, our vets, as pawns in a political game.”
Now, for most people travelling 3,500 miles from Alaska to the nation’s capitol in order to grand stand at a WWII memorial that your own political party has caused to close would seem like a political game. But that’s only the half of it, because the Tea Party rally, which included such luminaries as Senators Ted Cruz and Mike Lee, also boasted the considered contribution of conservative activist Mr. Larry Klayman.
Now, keep in mind that it’s the Republican Party that continues to shut down the government, thereby curtailing veterans benefits, and it’s the Republican Party whose sequester cuts have hammered the military. But here’s the real giveaway, the singular proof that Sunday’s rally was solely about using the military as pawns in a political game:
“I call upon all of you to wage a second American nonviolent revolution, to use civil disobedience, and to demand that this president leave town, to get up, to put the Quran down, to get up off his knees, and to figuratively come up with his hands out.”
This is the political game that Mrs. Palin and her allies have been playing, even before this president was inaugurated. For them, this is what the shutdown is really all about.
