We’ve previously detailed how, on paper, the Far Right’s “Fire Boehner” movement would seem to have a very steep uphill climb.
Yet the spokesman of one of the organizations leading this fight told msnbc’s Martin Bashir today that they’re feeling confident of a House Speaker TBD come 2013. When asked if they can get the 16 votes they say are needed to depose John Boehner as Speaker, American Majority Action’s Ron Meyer, Jr, said, “Yes, we can get that number.”
AMA also has a list of three conservative candidates who could pass conservative muster as Boehner’s replacement: Rep. Tom Price of Georgia, Jeb Hensarling of Texas and Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio.
Problem is, Price already (and rather quickly) said he’s not interested. And one of the four conservatives whose dismissal from their committee assignments fueled this anti-Boehner fight doesn’t sound ready for a fight.
Rep. David Schweikert of Arizona told the regulars on “Morning Joe”, “Look, I’m not happy, but this is also big-boy politics … You have a number of conservatives and conservative groups around the country that, literally, want to go to battle. The problem is: If you have the fiscal cliff [and] these other major, major issues much more important to the survival of your country, do you, sort of, do you light it up for your own vanity.” Skewed polling, anyone?
