Former President George H.W. Bush was discharged from a Houston hospital Monday after receiving lengthy treatment for bronchitis and a persistent cough.
“Mr. Bush has improved to the point that he will not need any special medication when he goes home, but he will continue physical therapy,” Dr. Amy Mynderse, the internal medicine physician in charge of Bush’s care at The Methodist Hospital in Houston said in a statement.
The former President expressed his gratitude in a statement:
“I am deeply grateful for the wonderful doctors and nurses at Methodist who took such good care of me. Let me add just how touched we were by the many get-well messages we received from our friends and fellow Americans. Your prayers and good wishes helped more than you know, and as I head home my only concern is that I will not be able to thank each of you for your kind words.” — Appearing on “Andrea Mitchell Reports” Friday, Former National Security Adviser General Brent Scowcroft said that his friend President George H. W. Bush is doing “much better” after a recent health scare: “I think he’s doing much better now. He had some respiratory problems that they were very afraid would go into a serious form of pneumonia, and I’m not an expert on the medical diagnosis, but he’s doing fine now. I talked to him a few days ago. And he’s his old self… His spirits are fine.”
