1. Chris Christie was sworn in today for his second term as New Jersey Governor. He pledged “to make the hard decisions, to raise the uncomfortable topics, to require responsibility and accountability, to be willing to stand hard when principles are being violated and to be willing to compromise to find common ground with all of our people” — but he made no direct mention of the “bridgegate” scandal that has plagued his administration in recent weeks, or Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer’s allegations that his administration threatened to withhold Hurricane Sandy relief money. Christie’s Democratic opponent from the 2012 election, former New Jersey State Senator Barbara Buono, joins All In tonight with Eric Boehlert, a Senior Fellow at Media Matters, to discuss how Christie’s political machine operates.
2. Former Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell and his wife Maureen were indicted today for allegedly violating federal public corruption laws. At the heart of the issue is McDonnel’s relationship with Jonnie Williams, a donor who allegedly paid for a $50,000 loan for the McDonnells and spent nearly $20,000 on dresses for the first lady of Virginia, among other things — totaling more than $140,000 in gifts. Federal prosecutors allege that Williams gave the money in exchange for promotion of his dietary supplement company, Star Scientific, by the governor and his wife. “I never promised — and Mr. Williams and his company never received — any government benefit of any kind from me or my administration,” the governor said in a statement, noting that all the gifts were legal and have been repaid with interest. 4. Texas gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis is running into some early problems on the campaign trail, starting with the personal narrative her campaign is using to sell her candidacy. We’ll discuss the impact with Rebecca Traister, a senior writer at Salon, Jim Moore, a former director of the PAC progress Texas, and Jess McIntosh, communications director for the PAC Emily’s List.
