Tonight on All In with Chris Hayes: according to Fox News Host Bill O’Reilly, the issue of violence among young black men must be addressed with harsher mandatory minimum drug sentences, stricter schools, discouraging pregnancy out of wedlock and doing away with “gangsta” music and culture. On his show Monday night, O’Reilly called for these changes to remedy the lack of traditional family structure which he says is the cause of an “epidemic” of violence in the black community. Melissa Harris-Perry, Professor at Tulane University and Host of msnbc’s Melissa Harris-Perry, and Bryan Stevenson, Director of the Equal Justice Initiative, will join Chris Hayes to discuss this latest right-wing reaction to the Zimmerman verdict and the ensuing national conversation on race.
Plus: New York Police Department Commissioner Ray Kelly responded Tuesday to a barrage of criticism about his policies following the news that he is in the running for Secretary of Homeland Security. Kelly, facing accusations of racial profiling for his “stop and frisk” program and surveillance of Muslims, fired back with a series of data that were promptly refuted by Slate‘s Alex Pareene.
Later, Chris Hayes will talk with Sen. Sherrod Brown of Ohio about a newly revealed practice by Goldman Sachs to skirt price regulations on a product we use every day–aluminum–costing American consumers billions of dollars.
Chris Hayes will also delve into the culture of sexual misconduct in politics, on the heels of the news that an ex-aide has filed a sexual harassment suit against embattled San Diego Mayor Bob Filner. The scandals continued piling up Tuesday, with Former Rep. Anthony Weiner admitting that he continued sexting after his inappropriate behavior was exposed and he was forced to reign in 2011. San Diego City Council Member Todd Gloria and Marin Cogan, contributing writer to The New Republic and GQ, will join the table to talk about the controversies and how the issue of consent makes Filer’s behavior more serious than Weiner’s.
