1. Tensions are ratcheting up between North Korea and South Korea. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un ordered troops to enter a “wartime state” Friday. The threat is in response to South Korea using loudspeakers to broadcast anti-North Korean sentiments near the border. Kim Jong Un warned of military action Saturday if the broadcasts do not stop. In a statement, North Korea’s state-run news station said the situation “is now inching close to the brink of a war.” South Korea responded saying any attack would be met with strong retaliation. This news comes a day after the two countries exchanged fire over land.
2. The Hillary Clinton email controversy keeps going and going. A federal judge ordered the State Department to keep in close touch with the FBI about what is found on the Democratic presidential candidate’s email server. Additionally, the judge brought up a side issue in the controversy — a Freedom of Information Act inquiry about an employment arrangement that allowed top Clinton aide Huma Abedin to do outside consulting while working at the State Department.
3. Josh Duggar admitted to being unfaithful to his wife and having a pornography addiction on Thursday, following reports that the “19 Kids and Counting” star had a paid account on the cheating website Ashley Madison. Duggar called himself “the biggest hypocrite ever” for “espousing faith and family values” while watching porn and being unfaithful to his wife. Duggar did not confirm or deny the reports about Ashley Madison, and it is possible someone else registered on the site using his name.
4. Government employees, including some with sensitive jobs in the White House and Congress, had an account on the cheating website, Ashley Madison, according to the Associated Press. Their information was reportedly found after the hackers behind the leak released a second batch of emails and personal information from the site’s customers. Also reportedly found in the second data dump were emails from the company’s CEO.
5. The accuser in the St. Paul’s rape trial took the stand for the third day Thursday. More witnesses have come forward with information, including a school nurse who said the girl did not report that she was coerced into having sex with the alleged perpetrator, Owen Labrie. However, other witnesses said the girl showed marks on her chest and that she talked about discomfort. Labrie has pleaded not guilty to all charges against him. In case you missed it:
