MoveOn.org is adding its voice to the chorus of voices urging Congress to reject a resolution to use military force in Syria.
The ad, called “Never Again,” directly links the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan with the current situation in Syria and calls for Americans to tell their representatives to vote “no” on military action.
“We never set out to spend eight years at war in Iraq or to be mired down for more than a decade of fighting in Afghanistan,” a narrator says while statistics of lives lost and trillions spent flash on the screen over war footage. “So what should America expect if we rush into Syria alone, with no real plan for the consequences?”
“We already know it gets worse. Congress: most Americans oppose missile strikes in Syria. Don’t lead us down this road again. Call Congress and tell them, vote ‘no’ on military action.”
Denis McDonough, White House chief of staff, and Secretary of State John Kerry continued to make the case for military strikes against Syria Sunday, with McDonough emphasizing that the aims are very limited. President Obama announced plans to address the nation from the White House Tuesday night.
