As the GOP race becomes a two-man show, Rick Santorum wants to make sure you don’t forget about him. Yesterday, the Republican presidential hopeful blamed American universities for “indoctrinating kids with left-wing ideology” during a speech in Naples, Florida. He said it’s “no wonder President Obama wants every kid to go to college.”
In the same speech, Santorum noted “62 percent of children who enter college with a faith conviction leave without it.”
But, a recent study published in The Review of Religious Research suggests that Santorum’s statistics are incorrect. The study’s author, Philip Schwadel, told Inside Higher Ed that higher education doesn’t necessarily create open hostility against religion. In fact, there are some religious beliefs and practices that increase with more education.
