Congressman Bobby Rush got booted off the House floor on Wednesday for wearing his hoodie up.
As a tribute to slayed teen Trayvon Martin, the Democrat from Illinois took off his suit jacket while speaking, all Mister Rogers-style, revealing a hooded sweatshirt underneath. He commended supporters of Trayvon Martin for speaking out in the case and declared, “just because someone wears a hoodie, doesn’t make him a hoodlum.”
Rep. Greg Harper, who was presiding over the chamber, banged his gavel to no avail and eventually had him escorted off away from the podium. Rush kept on talking.
