Looking to capitalize on Mitt Romney’s lukewarm relations with the middle class, President Obama highlighted his policies that cater to voters who are, in his words, just “looking for a chance” to succeed.
In a speech on Wednesday, he accused Republicans of reviving trickle-down economics aimed at the one percent instead of helping average Americans. These Republicans “don’t seem to remember how America was built,” Obama said.
He never mentioned Romney by name, but he took a subtle dig at the GOP frontrunner’s vast wealth and fortune.
“I wasn’t born with a silver spoon in my mouth. Michelle wasn’t, either,” the president reminded a crowd at Lorain County Community College in Elyria, Ohio. “But somebody gave us a chance. Just like these folks up here are looking for a chance.” Gearing up for the election, Obama has been pushing tax and economic fairness policies on the campaign trail.
