George Clooney got in some good bonding time with his father, journalist Nick Clooney, this afternoon when they were arrested outside of the Sudanese Embassy in Washington D.C. The actor’s arrest comes just 24 hours after he testified in front of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee regarding relief efforts in Sudan. Both Clooney and his father were among a number of people protesting Sudan’s blockade of humanitarian aid to its people.
The Clooneys have since been released from jail.
msnbc’s Andrea Mitchell was able to speak with Clooney during the protest where he told her, “It’s actually a humiliating thing to be arrested no matter what you do, but I’m proud to be standing here with my father.”
Both he and his father were arrested shortly thereafter along with Martin Luther King III, Democratic Congressman Al Green and NAACP President Ben Jealous, among others. At one point, even Andrea Mitchell was asked by police if she wanted to be arrested. The Oscar-winning star of “Ocean’s 11” and “The Descendants” was aware protesting at the Embassy could result in arrest since it’s considered private property. But, clearly this is an issue he considers critical. “When people ask you, ‘Where were you and where did you stand?’ I want to say I was standing on the right side of history.”
