“Power resides where men believe it resides.” George R.R. Martin is putting his money where his mouth is by helping Sen. Tom Udall fundraise for his re-election campaign.
Martin, a Santa Fe resident, “is jumping into New Mexico politics” by hosting a fundraiser for the Democratic senator at his personal cinema on Oct. 7. The event will feature a “discussion on New Mexico issues and politics in support of Senator Udall’s re-election campaign,” according to the press release.
For a $5 donation, “you could hang out with George RR Martin,” an advertisement for the event states. The contest winner will win a trip to Santa Fe to attend the event and a “VIP meet and greet” with the author and senator.
The general public will also be able to purchase tickets for $250, attend a VIP reception that includes a photo with the two for $1,000, or dine with Martin and the senator for $2,600.
This is not the first time the author of the popular book series that inspired HBO’s hit show has weighed in on politics. In 2012, Martin lambasted Republican efforts to suppress votes in Ohio, Colorado, Virginia, Florida and other swing states.
