If John Boehner were a betting man, he’d give it a “one-in-three “ shot of the GOP losing control of the House in the November races.
In an interview to be aired Tuesday on Fox News, the Speaker of the House estimated “that there is a two in three chance that we win control of the House again. But there’s a one in three chance that we could lose.” Boehner admitted the Republican Party faces “a big challenge.”
“We have 50 of our members in tough races, 89 freshmen running for their first reelections, and we have 32 districts that are in states where there is no presidential campaign going to be run, no big Senate race — and we call these orphan districts,” Boehner said very candidly. “You take 18 of them — California, Illinois and New York — where you know we’re not likely to do well at the top of the ticket, and those districts are frankly pretty vulnerable.”
Dems need to win 25 seats to retake control of the House of Representatives.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee raised more money in March than the National Republican Congressional Committee, according to the latest reports. Still, the House GOP has netted more cash flow, about $4 million to be more precise, as of the start of the second quarter.
