When Ed Schultz called well-known conservative political commentator Laura Ingraham inappropriate names on his radio show The Ed Schultz Show on May 24, 2011, feminist organizations, including the Women’s Media Center, called for his suspension.
Ed, who made the offensive comments during a critique of Ingraham’s criticism of President Barack Obama’s trip to Ireland, quickly realized the damage he’d caused and moved to contrition.
The following day, on May 25, Ed offered to take unpaid leave from The Ed Show and msnbc accepted, saying “remarks of this nature are unacceptable and will not be tolerated.”
That evening on The Ed Show, Ed made a heartfelt apology to Ingraham and then immediately began his unpaid leave:
