Snowden comes out as NSA leak. Edward Snowden, a 29-year-old former CIA assistant and defense contractor, admitted in the British newspaper The Guardian that he was the source of leaks about National Security Administration surveillance. Now holed up in a Honk Kong hotel room, Snowden revealed his identity at will, and told the Guardian, “I have no intention of hiding who I am because I know I have done nothing wrong….I understand that I will be made to suffer for my actions,” but “I will be satisfied if the federation of secret law, unequal pardon and irresistible executive powers that rule the world that I love are revealed even for an instant.”
Ayotte is in. With a bipartisan immigration bill heading to the Senate floor this week, Republicans got another vote this weekend, with Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.) saying this weekend she’ll support the compromise bill from the Gang of Eight. Calling the bill a “tough but fair” path to citizenship for nearly 11 million undocumented immigrants, Ayotte said on CBS’s “Face the Nation” that the compromise was a “thoughtful bipartisan solution to a tough problem…And that’s why I’m going to support it.”
Furman picked. “President Obama is planning to nominate Jason Furman to chair the Council of Economic Advisers on Monday, promoting a longtime White House aide to one of the administration’s top economic policy positions,” the Washington Post reports. “Furman, who has served as the principal deputy director of the National Economic Council since the beginning of Obama’s presidency, will replace Alan Krueger as chairman, according to a White House official. Obama is expected to announce the transition shortly after 2 p.m. Monday at the White House.”
