At 105 years old, Agnes McKee has accomplished a task no other person her age ever has: she is the oldest person to ever throw out a ceremonial first pitch at a Major League Baseball game.
In honor of her birthday, which was last Wednesday, McKee was chosen to throw out the first pitch on Sunday before before the San Diego Padres played the New York Mets.
“It’s very exciting,” she said before heading onto the field. “I’m very honored to be allowed to do that. I have no idea what’s going to happen I hope everything goes well. “
As she stood on the mound, wearing a special jersey with her name on the back and the number 105, fans cheered as she tossed an underhanded throw to catcher Rene Rivera.
“I have no idea how I got to be this old. I tell people I enjoy life, I’m a happy person,” McKee told KSWB in an interview before throwing out the first pitch. “I try to enjoy everyday as it comes along.”
