If what President Obama recently said is even remotely true, then the American Dream is merely an illusion.
That’s because as I — and generations of Americans — have understood it, the individualism inherent in the promise of the American Dream and the collectivism being foisted on us by the White House can’t co-exist.
The idea that you can start from nothing and become something through hard work and innovation is simply a part of the American Dream narrative we’ve all come to know. But it’s only the first part of it.
