Today’s installment of campaign-related news items that won’t necessarily generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers:
* Aaron Blake considers the evidence and believes Democrats’ chances of winning back the House are improving. They’ll need a net gain of 25 seats.
* In Virginia, a new Quinnipiac poll shows President Obama leading all of his Republican rivals in hypothetical match-ups, including a four-point lead over Mitt Romney, 47% to 43%.
* On a related note, in Virginia’s closely-watched U.S. Senate race, Quinnipiac shows Tim Kaine (D) narrowly leading George Allen (R), 45% to 44%.
* Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) is struggling badly according to the latest survey from Public Policy Polling. The governor’s approval rating is just 33%, and in a hypothetical rematch against former Gov. Ted Strickland (D), the Democrat would win by 20 points.
* In the wake of Pete Hoekstra’s ugly attack ad in Michigan’s U.S. Senate race, incumbent Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D) is trying to raise money as a result of the controversy. * Hoekstra’s ad seemed especially offensive to Sen. Dan Inouye (D-Hawaii), the chamber’s longest serving member, who said yesterday, “America should expect much more from a candidate for a high federal position. His racist thoughts are not welcome in the United States Senate.” * In Missouri, the latest results from Public Policy Polling show incumbent Gov. Jay Nixon (D) with big leads over all of his likely GOP rivals.
