Today’s installment of campaign-related news items that won’t necessarily generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers:
* In national polling, a Pew Research Center poll shows President Obama leading Mitt Romney, 49% to 45%; a Reuters poll shows Obama leading Romney, 47% to 43%; and a New York Times/CBS News poll shows them tied at 46% each.
* In Florida, arguably the nation’s most important swing state, Public Policy Polling shows Obama leading Romney by five, 50% to 45%.
* In the special election to fill the seat vacated by Gabrielle Giffords in Arizona, the parties chose their respective nominees for a special election: Republicans backed former candidate Jesse Kelly and Democrats chose former Giffords aide Ron Barber.
* As New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) continues to talk about his availability for the 2012 ticket, Virginia Gov. Bob “Ultrasound’ McDonnell (R) plans to air positive TV ads about himself in the coming weeks. Since McDonnell can’t run for re-election, the move probably has something to with improving his standing during the Romney campaign’s VP search.
* On Tuesday, former U.S. Comptroller General David Walker said he doesn’t want to run for president. On Wednesday, Walker said the opposite, and is eyeing the Americans Elect ballot. * The Democratic Party chair in the state of Washington is not at all fond of the idea of Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) moving to the Evergreen State to run for Congress. * And the Obama campaign unveiled a series of Spanish-language ads this morning, including this one. (Note that the president even says the “I approve this message” message in Spanish.)
