Today’s installment of campaign-related news items that won’t necessarily generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers:
* If Mitt Romney is the Republican nominee, he shouldn’t expect to win one of his home states — PPP shows President Obama leading Romney in Massachusetts by 23 points.
* Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) doesn’t want to be Romney’s running mate. Since he was unlikely to get an invitation, the announcement seems unnecessary.
* Gallup’s latest poll shows Congress’ approval rating soaring … from 10% to 12%.
* In Connecticut’s open U.S. Senate race, a new Quinnipiac poll shows Linda McMahon (R) and Rep. Christopher Murphy (D) leading their respective party primaries by healthy margins.
* The same poll, by the way, found Romney with a huge lead in Connecticut’s Republican presidential primary, but the former governor trails Obama in the state by a wide margin. * With Sen. Dick Lugar (R) already struggling with residency questions in Indiana, it’s not helpful that the senator is now reimbursing the Treasury “for erroneously billing taxpayers for a series of hotel stays in Indianapolis in recent years.” * In news that Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) probably won’t like, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) said yesterday she hopes Hillary Clinton runs for president in 2016, and will apparently endorse the Secretary of State if she does. * The Romney campaign has begun airing this ad in advance of the Wisconsin primary. What I found interesting about it: the commercial mentions neither Rick Santorum nor Obama.
