Rick Santorum sent a fundraiser last night with the subject line “Your blood will boil.” He wrote:
What an amazing week it has been in Iowa with every poll showing momentum continuing to trend our way. I am humbled by the enthusiasm and support – but I need your help.
Because of this dramatic political shift, my opponents are frantically using every tool they have to attack me. The media, of course, is glad to highlight them in order to raise their credibility. One robocall asked thousands of Iowans to call my personal cell phone after accusing me of being a liberal. Others are calling me a radical conservative. A volunteer just told me she that she received eight robocalls in a few hours — and they were all against me. People are literally unplugging their phones. We need your immediate help to stand up against them!
As for the media piling on, New York Times conservative columnist David Brooks champions Mr. Santorum today, writing, “I do believe that he represents sensibility and a viewpoint that is being suppressed by the political system.” As for the robocalls, the Des Moines Register reports that Mr. Santorum says they miscast him as anti-gun. Politico says Mr. Santorum blames Ron Paul for them.
