Today’s installment of campaign-related news items that won’t necessarily generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers:
* A new USA Today/Gallup Poll of Hispanics found President Obama with a very large lead over Mitt Romney, 66% to 25%. The poll was conducted before Obama announced he would implement many of the goals of the DREAM Act, suggesting the gap is likely to expand further.
* With Romney’s Bain Capital background back in the news, Priorities USA Action released a new ad over the weekend on the issue. It’s part of a $10 million ad buy airing in Colorado, Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
* National Review reports that Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) is, in fact, being vetted as part of the Romney’s campaign search for a running mate. Tim Pawlenty, meanwhile, doesn’t sound interested in the gig, and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) said yesterday, “I’m not discussing the vice presidential process any more.”
* Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.) is still having debate issues — he turned down another invitation over the weekend, this time for a debate sponsored by the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Worcester Telegram & Gazette and the Colleges of Worcester Consortium.
* Speaking of Massachusetts, the state Republican Party has had some success disqualifying Ron Paul followers from its delegation to the national convention. * Sen. Orrin Hatch (R) will have a primary tomorrow, but statewide polls suggest he’s the overwhelming favorite to keep his seat. * As JPMorgan Chase faces scrutiny after losing billions on risky trades, JPMorgan employees have begun donating more generously to House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s (R-Va.) political action committee.
