Today’s installment of campaign-related news items that won’t necessarily generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers:
* The Obama campaign released a new ad over the weekend, and it’s probably the most talked-about spot the Democrats have done so far this year. The ad will air in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. (With nearly 900,000 YouTube views in 48 hours, it’s the most successful Obama ad of the cycle to date.)
* Ron Paul’s hopes of being officially nominated for the presidency at the Republican National Convention were dashed over the weekend, when his supporters came up far short at the Nebraska GOP convention held on Saturday.
* The latest McClatchy-Marist poll shows President Obama leading Mitt Romney by just two points, 48% to 46%.
* Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) acknowledged in an interview with The Hill that he’s met with Romney campaign officials as part of the vice presidential vetting process.
