Today’s installment of campaign-related news items that won’t necessarily generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers:
* It took a while, but it appears President Obama’s donors have gotten back in the game — in August, for the first time since April, the Democrat outraised Mitt Romney.
* In Ohio, Public Policy Polling now shows Obama leading Romney by five, 50% to 45%.
* Taking advantage of the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center analysis, the new Priorities USA Action ad slams Romney for intending to raise taxes on the middle class. The ad is set to run this week in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Ohio, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
* In North Carolina, another 2012 battleground, PPP found Obama narrowly leading Romney, 49% to 48%.
* It’s widely assumed that Obama is well positioned in New Mexico, but the latest Albuquerque Journal poll shows the president ahead by only five, 45% to 40%. Former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson, the Libertarian candidates, is at 7% in the poll. * The same poll shows Rep. Martin Heinrich (D) leading former Rep. Heather Wilson (R) in this year’s U.S. Senate race in New Mexico, 49% to 42%. * Three days after picking its eight target states for 2012, the Romney campaign said it’s going to contest Wisconsin after all, unveiling a new ad in the state over the weekend. Why the Romney campaign initially excluded Wisconsin in its massive ad buy, and then reversed course, is unclear. * In Massachusetts, Sen. Scott Brown (R) has a new ad featuring President Obama telling him, in passing, “Good job” after a bill-signing ceremony.
