Today’s installment of campaign-related news items that won’t necessarily generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers:
* There no longer appears to be much doubt that Texas state Sen. Wendy Davis (D) will launch her gubernatorial campaign next week. The announcement is scheduled for Thursday.
* In Massachusetts, Rep. Michael Capuano (D) was clearly weighing a gubernatorial bid in 2014, but yesterday, decided against it. The decision is expected to boost state Attorney General Martha Coakley, generally considered the Democratic frontrunner.
* Former Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) said this week he would run for the U.S. Senate if Sen. Marco Rubio (R) runs for president. In related news, West is leaving his position at PJ Media this week, following an “altercation” with one of his colleagues.* House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) may yet retire at the end of this Congress, but in case he doesn’t, the Ohio Republican will have a primary challenger next year. Businessman Eric Gurr is taking on the incumbent, saying Boehner’s support for U.S. military intervention in Syria was the “tipping point.”
* In fundraising news, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee topped its Republican counterpart in receipts last month, the seventh time in eight months the DSCC has done so. * On a related note, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee narrowly outraised the National Republican Congressional Committee in August, which is unusual given the fact that the GOP has the House majority. * And in New York, the NRCC hoped to persuade former Rep. Ann Marie Buerkle (R) to take on Rep. Dan Maffei (D) once more, but this week, Buerkle decided against it.
