Today’s installment of campaign-related news items that won’t necessarily generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers:
* Starting today in local broadcast stations in Lexington, Kentucky, Americans United for Change is airing this television ad, criticizing Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s (R) opposition to gun reforms.
* In a bit of a surprise, Rep. Patrick McHenry (R) announced yesterday that he will not challenge Sen. Kay Hagan (D) next year in North Carolina. PPP recently found McHenry as the strongest opponent to the incumbent.
* In New Jersey, the good news for state Sen. Barbara Buono (D) is that a new Rutgers-Eagleton poll shows her closing the gap against Republican Gov. Chris Christie. The bad news for Buono is that she still trails by 30 points, and there are only about six months left until the election.
* Former Republican Rep. Asa Hutchinson formally kicked off his gubernatorial campaign in Arkansas this week. Hutchinson is perhaps best known for having been a member of the Bush/Cheney administration and leading the NRA’s task force on school violence.
