Today’s installment of campaign-related news items that won’t necessarily generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers:
* President Obama’s campaign released a new TV ad this morning, which will air during the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympic Games. Note, it includes excerpts from the same Norfolk speech Republicans are pretending to be outraged about.
* Sheldon Adelson is reportedly planning a multi-million-dollar campaign to undermine Obama’s support among Jewish voters, prompting a group of wealthy and influential Democrats, including Harvey Weinstein and Rahm Emanuel, to launch a counter-offensive.
* Priorities USA Action’s Olympic-themed ad targeting Mitt Romney has been taken down, following complaints from the International Olympics Committee.
* After running a series of attack ads, the Romney campaign is launching a $1 million radio ad campaign, criticizing Obama for running attack ads.
* In Nevada’s very competitive U.S. Senate race, the League of Conservation Voters is running new ads targeting appointed Sen. Dean Heller (R). * Nate Cohn makes an interesting observation: Pennsylvania is supposed to be a key battleground state, but the Romney campaign isn’t making much of an effort to advertise in there. * Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley, widely assumed to be a likely candidate in the 2016 race of the Democratic presidential nomination, has created a new federal political action committee. * And in Connecticut, Chris Donovan’s (D) congressional campaign has a new problem on its hands: Donovan’s former campaign manager and seven others have been charged in an ongoing FBI probe.
