Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) joined NOW With Alex Wagner Wednesday to react to the President’s announcement that Vice President Joe Biden will lead a task force aimed at fighting gun violence.
The panel is being asked to come up with ideas by January that can then be acted on by Congress. One potential obstacle to whatever is proposed is the NRA. The gun-rights group is scheduled to hold a news conference Friday, one week after the elementary school massacre in Newtown, CT, to present what it calls “meaningful contributions.”
“I pray that they come to the table with some ideas, and those ideas shouldn’t be ‘let’s arm the teachers,’” said Boxer. “Teachers aren’t law enforcement. You want law enforcement at the schools, let’s do that. Let’s not turn our teachers into gun-toting teachers.”
