Call it day 2, or call it day 1 – but the Republican National Convention is finally underway.
As Tropical Storm Isaac heads toward the Gulf Coast, where it is expected to make landfall as a hurricane tonight, the GOP is proceeding as planned with a condensed convention schedule that includes speeches this evening from New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and Ann Romney. Meanwhile, we’ve learned that Governor Mitt Romney will fly to Tampa today ahead of schedule.
It’s still anyone’s guess as to what impact Isaac’s landfall could have on the convention. The effects of the storm are already being felt in several areas, and hurricane warnings extend across multiple states. We’ll have the latest on the storm, as well as the political stakes for the GOP, when we get everyone together today at noon ET on NOW.
