Coming off an election in which President Obama won 93% of African-Americans, 73% of Asian-Americans and 71% of Latinos, several prominent Republicans have stepped up their outreach to minorities.
On Monday, Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus traveled to east Brooklyn where he met with 20 black Republicans and talked about the need to be a “more welcoming party.”
In the nation’s capital Tuesday, Senator John McCain spoke about the need for bipartisan immigration reform, reminding listeners of the responsibility of the U.S. as a ” Judeo-Christian-based nation” to “love all of our fellow human beings.”
Also on Tuesday, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie campaigned in Paterson, N.J.–a city where he won just 11% of the vote in 2009–and stressed the need to listen to all of his constituents regardless of how likely they are to vote for him. On Wednesday’s NOW with Alex Wagner, the panel discussed whether these recent efforts will pay off, or instead, be met with stiff resistance.
