WikiLeaks launched “Free Snowden” this week to collect funds for NSA whistleblower, Edward Snowden’s, defense. The site urges users to “donate now” to “help cover the defence costs of the whisteblower who revealed the NSA mass surveillance programs.”
Snowden’s revelations are still causing major waves in national, and international, security circles. German newsmagazine Der Spiegel recently found that the National Security Agency had been monitoring German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s cellphone (and had been doing so since as early as 2002), causing many to question why the U.S. would listen in on its allies.
