The tables turned in Washington D.C. Saturday at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, with President Obama taking shots at the media and politicians in a comedy monologue that looked like host Conan O’Brien’s late-night riffs.
“I know Republicans are still sorting out what happened in 2012,” Obama said. “They need to do a better job reaching out to minorities. Call me self-centered, I can think of one minority they can start with—hello!?! Think of me as a trial run, see how it goes.”
Obama pointed out first lady Michelle Obama’s Vogue covers and said that his gray hairs made him less of a cover model.
“I get it,” he said. “These days, I look in the mirror and I have to admit I’m not the strapping young, Muslim socialist that I used to be.”
For his part, O’Brien poked fun at the shifting alliances in Washington.
