Trump defends calling Clinton an ‘enabler’ of husband’s affairs

Donald Trump defended calling Hillary Clinton an “enabler” of Bill Clinton’s affairs on the campaign trail and accused her of playing the “women’s card” in an interview that aired Monday.

“It’s only retribution for what she said,” Trump said on CNN. “She is playing the women’s card through the hilt. I mean, I watched over the weekend and everything is about women, and Donald Trump raised his voice, and you know. It’s all nonsense.”

The business mogul said Clinton was a “nasty, mean enabler” of her husband’s infidelity.

“She’s been the total enabler, she would go after these women and destroy their lives,” he said in Oregon over the weekend. “She was an unbelievably nasty, mean enabler, and what she did to a lot of those women is disgraceful.”

The presumptive GOP nominee then vowed in the Monday interview that he would perform well with female voters in November.

“And you know what?” Trump asked. “Women understand it better than anybody. Watch how well I do with women when it counts, when the election comes, watch how well. Because women want to see strong security, they want to see strong military, they want to see borders where people just can’t come crossing, walking across the border like it’s Swiss cheese.” 

Trump was then asked why he invoked Bill Clinton’s infidelity as opposed to concentrating on those issues.

“I spoke very little about that compared to other things,” Trump said before insisting that infidelity was a “big thing” and that the former president was “the worst abuser of women.”

“He was impeached,” Trump said. “He was impeached and then he lied about it. He said nothing happened with Monica Lewinsky and then he said, sorry folks, it actually did happen. And the guy was impeached for lying.”

The businessman then turned the focus back to Hillary Clinton before discussing his poll numbers in the upcoming West Virginia primary.

“She can’t talk about me because nobody respects women more than Donald Trump,” he said. “I will be better for women by a big factor than Hillary Clinton, who frankly, I don’t even think will be good to women.”
