New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady may have been thinking more about golf than politics when he said a Trump presidency “would be great.”
Brady made that comment two weeks ago after a red “Make America Great Again” hat was spotted in his locker. He added, “There would be a putting green on the White House lawn, I can tell you that.”
After his remarks, some questioned if Brady was endorsing real estate mogul and GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump.
In an interview with a Boston radio station on Monday, Brady clarified that his comment did not equate to a public endorsement, and he doesn’t even know what the current political issues are.

“Whatever I vote is going to be my own personal choice based on how I feel,” Brady said. “I haven’t paid attention to politics in a long time. It’s actually not something that I really even enjoy. It’s way off my radar.” Brady said his earlier remark was “an offhanded comment” and it took attention away from what he is doing with his team. He added that he is learning to say as little as possible in public. Brady and Trump have been friendly since he served as a judge in a Miss USA competition in 2002, and since then the two have been known to play golf together. Commenting on those golf outings, Brady said you don’t want to play against Trump. “He likes to win,” Brady said.
