Ready for round 3?
The U.S. faced yet another major storm system on Sunday and Monday, with a wintry mix hitting the Northeast and New England and rains hitting the West. The storm — dubbed Marcus by The Weather Channel — is expected to wreak havoc on commuters from the Great Lakes to the Northeast on Monday, bringing ice, sleet, snow, and rain to at least nine states.
The storm comes on the heels of two other major storm systems in the last few weeks – Linus and Juno –and tests already taxed infrastructure systems as people work to dig out of as many as two feet of snow. Snow, rain, and ice is expected to slam the northeast through Monday night in most areas, ending in eastern Massachusetts and Maine early Tuesday.
Heaviest snowfalls are expected for upstate New York through New England to southern Maine, with up to two feet of snow hitting New York’s capital Albany, as well as Boston and Worcester, Massachusetts, and many flights and schools across the Northeast closed Monday due to the wintry conditions.

In Massachusetts, Gov. Charlie Baker declared a state of emergency, closing state offices, putting public transportation on a limited schedule, and asking non-emergency personnel to stay home so roads could be cleared easily.
“We are waking up this morning to more snowfall in many parts of the state, with snow forecasted to keep accumulating throughout the day that will require a serious cleanup effort,” Baker said Monday morning. Farther south in Pennsylvania and New York City, up to 1/5 inch of ice is expected to coat the ground, followed by less than an inch of snow. To the west, a series of storms are also hitting from the northwest and northern California to the northern Rockies, bringing rain and high mountain snow late Monday afternoon into Tuesday morning, as well as rainfall in northern California. Late in the week, expect a frigid blast of arctic air in the Midwest, Northeast, and South, with temperatures averaging anywhere between 25-30 degrees below temperature averages in the Midwest and Northeast and 10-15 degrees below average down South.
