Surveillance video allegedly showing a Florida State University freshman quarterback punching a woman at a nightclub was released Monday by the State’s Attorney’s office in Tallahassee.
The quarterback, De’Andre Johnson, 19, has been charged with battery, according to an arrest warrant.
Following the release of the video, FSU’s football team punted Johnson from the team.
NBC affiliate FCN reported that Johnson turned himself in last Thursday and was released after posting $500 bail.

In the black and white video, captured on June 24, Johnson can be seen scuffling with a woman at a crowded bar inside a Tallahassee club identified by police as Yianni’s. At one point, Johnson swings at her face with his right hand, then quickly disappears off camera.
According to the warrant, a witness told police that the woman, who is not identified, yelled “no” twice before being punched. “The victim suffered bruising under her left eye, swelling to the left cheek and a small cut near the bridge of her nose,” the warrant says.
Johnson was a star at First Coast High School. As a freshman, he led the Bucs to a state championship game, and last year, he was declared Florida’s Mr. Football, an honor also held by Tim Tebow.
A spokesman for Johnson could not be reached. He was suspended by the school indefinitely on June 25 for violating department policy — but late Monday, FSU coach Jimbo Fisher announced that the quarterback had been “dismissed from the football team effective immediately.” NBC News also reached out to the victim but the woman declined to comment. Johnson’s legal issues are reminiscent of those of recently drafted former Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston, who just this April was sued by a woman who claims he sexually assaulted her in 2012.
