Caitlyn Jenner will publish a memoir chronicling her journey from Olympic track champion to transgender celebrity, the New York Times reported Tuesday.
The 66-year-old star of the reality TV show “I Am Cait” will write the memoir with Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Buzz Bissinger, the author of “Friday Night Lights,” who also penned the June Vanity Fair piece in which Jenner first revealed her full physical transformation and new identity as Caitlyn.
Though that cover story marked a watershed moment in transgender visibility, it also sparked controversy that would go on to permeate Jenner’s career as an activist. Both feminists and transgender rights advocates alike have consistently criticized Jenner for her intense focus on looks — in particular, the kind that perpetuate male-driven stereotypes of female beauty, often achieved through prohibitively expensive surgery.
