Nearly a quarter-century ago, Anita Hill’s name became synonymous with both courage and injustice.
The courage: The young law professor, an African-American woman, keeping her calm as she testified before a Senate panel that Clarence Thomas, then a nominee to the Supreme Court, had sexually harassed her. The injustice: That panel, made up of all white men, treating Hill as if she herself was on trial and then effectively dismissing her claims.
That Senate hearing – which helped galvanize a generation of women to run and be elected to office – and Hill’s subsequent career as a women’s rights advocate are revisited in a new documentary by Freida Mock.
